EXPLORING SOME FORMS OF MENTAL ILLNESS?


Mental Health disorders involve very serious health conditions that are "silent" and therefore overlooked. Without help, a lot of people continue to suffer quietly. We must make effort to recognize these mental ailments so we can begin to help.

Today we shall discuss 3 forms of mental illness;
1. Mood Disorders or affective disorders;
Recognizable in persons who are persistently sad or become suddenly overly happy, or have mood fluctuations from extreme happiness to extreme sadness. Some types of mood disorders include depression, cyclothymic disorder and bipolar disorder.
For example Depression is more than just feeling of stress, sadness or anxiety for some days. When such symptoms persist for weeks, months or more, then you must seek help!
2. Psychotic Disorders; e.g. Schizophrenia
We usually refer to as kolo-mental or street madness in extreme cases; usually recognizable in persons with distorted awareness and thinking. 
Some of the most common symptoms of psychotic disorders are;
i). Hallucinations which involves a person's experience of images or sounds that are not real, such as hearing voices
ii). Delusions, which are false fixed beliefs that the ill person accepts as true, despite evidence to the contrary.
iii). Muddled thoughts based on hallucinations or delusions
